Firm welcomes three new attorneys

On February 3, 2020, Lanier Ford welcomed three new attorneys: Fred Coffey, John Baggette, and Franklin Corley.

Mr. Coffey regularly advises clients about all aspects of government contracts, real estate, healthcare, commercial and banking transactions, corporate governance, intellectual property, and litigation coordination. He has worked as a pharmacist, in hospital administration, and as the general counsel of a privately owned company specializing in enterprise software applications for healthcare, airports, harbors, educational institutions, and other public and private entities. He therefore comes to his practice of law with a wealth of practical business and managerial experience. In addition, through his active participation on the boards of directors of a number of non-profit organizations, he also brings unique experience and insights into the operation of such organizations when advising them about the best and most practical courses of legal action.

In 1991, Mr. Coffey received his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham. He is currently a member of the Board of Zoning Adjustment for the City of Huntsville.

Mr. Baggette advises clients about the formation, acquisition, and sale of businesses and regularly assists clients in the creation of corporations and limited liability companies. He also represents banks and real estate developers in the financing, acquisition, and sale of commercial properties and condominium developments. Mr. Baggette also has experience in state and local tax abatements and incentives for industrial projects. His clients include defense contractors, real estate developers, and regional and local banks.

Since 2019, Mr. Baggette has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of real estate. After graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1993, he attended the New York University School of Law and received an LL.M. in taxation. In addition to being admitted to practice before all Alabama courts and the federal courts, Mr. Baggette is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court.

Mr. Corley represents private-sector businesses, corporations, governmental entities, public officers, and elected officials in a variety of litigation matters. His practice covers a broad range of general litigation matters throughout Alabama. His litigation practice primarily involves business issues, and he regularly advises clients in matters involving employment disputes, commercial contracts, and tort allegations. He counsels public and private employers on a broad range of employment issues and represents employers in all types of employment litigation.

SuperLawyers.com has selected Mr. Corley as a Rising Star from 2016 through 2019 in the area of general litigation. He received his law degree from the Cumberland School of law in 2010.
