New guide to health privacy issued
In April 2015, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a new “Guide to Privacy and Security of Electronic Health Information.”
Lanier Ford attorneys regularly advise medical practices, healthcare providers, business associates of healthcare providers, and even employers about the security requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
In addition to providing guidance about compliance with HIPAA, Lanier Ford attorneys advise physician practices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and medical service providers (such as laboratories) about a wide variety of other laws and regulations that affect their operation: Medicare Law, Medicaid Law, Ethics in Patient Referrals Act (Stark Law), Federal Health Care Program Anti-Kickback Statute, Civil False Claims Act, Program Fraud Civil Remedies Act, and Civil Monetary Penalties Act. They also regularly advise these same clients about day-to-day business operations involving employment law, workers’ compensation, and commercial contracts.
