Mr. Toler practices general civil litigation. He regularly represents municipalities, businesses, and individuals in cases involving civil rights, breach of contract, personal injury, property damage, and employment law, including employment discrimination and employment contract cases.
As a former U.S. District Court law clerk, Mr. Toler is particularly comfortable litigating in the federal trial courts. He has a strong grasp of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and related issues. He has participated in dozens of federal cases in all stages of litigation, from the complaint to final judgment. He has experience handling federal lawsuits in a variety of areas of law, including federal civil rights, employment discrimination, breach of contract, complex commercial and shareholder litigation, and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
Andrew also has experience representing state and local law enforcement agencies in systemic civil rights reform litigation, including in large-scale class actions and federal civil rights investigations. He has experience negotiating consent decrees, guiding clients to compliance to with consent decrees, working with court-appointed monitors, and minimizing the interference of civil rights advocacy groups with the day-to-day operations of state and local law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Toler is a pragmatic litigator who approaches every problem in a case with the client's ultimate goal in mind.
In his free time, Mr. Toler enjoys spending time with family, backpacking and camping, and exploring north Alabama.
